O gden, Utah is nestled against the Wasatch Front on the west flank of the Rocky Mountains. Located 38 miles from Salt Lake City in Weber County, Ogden has a population of nearly 78,000 residents. Ogden is a magical winter playground with world-class skiing at Snowbasin, the headquarters for the 2002 Winter Olympics alpine events. Just a few miles away is also the thrilling Powder Mountain and Nordic Valley ski resorts. Ice-skating is extremely popular in Northern Utah. In fact, the Ice Sheet at Ogden is one of the premier ice-skating arenas in the region. Located on the campus of Weber State University, the Ice Sheet offers skating opportunities including free skates, figure skating, and ice hockey virtually around the clock. Ogden is especially attractive for those who enjoy other outdoor activities. Two rivers run right through town and you can find an impressive variety of wildlife including deer, moose, elk, ducks, geese, swans and even mountain lions within 30 minutes of this area. Fishing for a mixed variety of species like trout, bass, catfish, walleye, pike, bass, and blue gill are all within close proximity. Fishing enthusiasts will enjoy easy access to peaceful water environments with assorted water volumes.
Because of its close proximity to bustling Salt Lake City, the economy in Ogden is booming. Having a strong economy has helped in securing affordable housing costs. The average household income for the city is $34,047, while the average estimated home value is an affordable $101,300. With the refreshing outdoor activities, low unemployment rate and affordable quality of living, Ogden makes an excellent choice for a relocation destination. Culture is also an important part of the Ogden scene. There are numerous public events that occur each year including a street festival and a winter carnival. There are also many museums that bring Ogden's history to life. Ogden offers art galleries, theater, symphony, ballet and operas for those who delight in the arts. There is also a thriving nightlife in the Ogden area for those who want to kick up their heels. Because Utah is a "dry" state (Utah's liquor laws only allow serving beer with 3.2% alcohol unless in a restaurant), many people assume that there is very little to do there. The truth is that there is so much to experience you will be hard pressed to find the time to take it all in! In this pristine city there are several shopping malls and over 50 retail stores. In the Weber County area there are a variety of boutiques selling many items and services including men and women's apparel, home accessories, music, sporting goods and much more. Additionally, Ogden hosts some very large company retail stores. There is no shortage of shopping within the city and close by in Salt Lake City world-class shopping is at your fingertips.
Ogden has always been a city rich in both culture and pride. It has slowly become one of the best places in the entire country to raise a family. The public education system is superior. The Ogden School District is comprised of 26 schools, and serves the educational needs of over 13,039 students. There is a very low student-to-teacher ratio in the classrooms, providing students with an excellent learning environment. The schools rate exceptionally well academically and provide an outstanding educational opportunity for those who attend them. Ogden also has 3 community colleges in the area, plus Weber State University with a full time enrollment of 12,112 students. |
